Storti Case Claims Italian Immigrant Legally Dead

Washington October 15 Luigi Storti of Massachusetts is argued to be legally dead so he cannot be killed again in a Supreme Court case. He was sentenced to death by electricity for murder in 1900 with appeals over habeas corpus and constitutionality. The Oct 28 hearing will consider whether May 11, 1901, passed makes him legally dead.

Storti Habeas Plea Seeks Prison Release Challenging 1901 Law

The case of Luigi Storti, seeking a writ of habeas corpus for release from State Prison, debated constitutional validity of the 1901 Chapter 520. Judge Loring heard part of the case yesterday with further testimony to come, and a full bench review planned. The warden asserts Storti’s confinement under the new law improves his conditions, noting a larger, better lit cell used for good behavior prisoners and denying persistent claims of denial of medical access and visitors.
