Jury in Brady Case Fails to Reach Verdict

The jury in James N. Brady’s mail theft trial at the U S District Court could not agree after five hours of ballots. Eight favored conviction, four favored acquittal. The case will be tried again, with District Attorney Jones signaling a new round. Brady expressed guarded hope for acquittal.

Big Plot to Steal Diamonds From Touraine

Carl R. Hallstram of Somerville arrived at the Touraine with a fiancee and her mother claiming vast funds. He arranged to purchase about $1109 in diamonds, then led the hotel and jewelry men to Suite 504. A hotel detective tracked him as plans to steal thousands in gems unraveled and investigators moved in.
