Admiral Dewey's Watch to Be Presented by Boston City

The time-piece, a gift to Admiral Dewey, will be delivered to Mayor Quincy today by Kettell & Blake of 376 Washington street. The watch features a diamond monogram "G. D." and was described yesterday in The Post.

GROWDS ON THE OLYMPIA ABOARD FOR PARADE

A large crowd of marines sailors and many women crowded the Olympia before 10 30 am as a joint committee from the State Chamber of Commerce and Home Market Club visited the ship to discuss arrangements for a parade. The ship’s crew and priests were aboard with Father Reaney hosting and the lion Chichester on display. Navy yard tugs planned to come alongside Saturday at 10 am to transfer officers.

Tallest Soldier Elected First Lieutenant in Local Militia

The Charlestown City Guards held an election for first lieutenant to fill the vacancy from First Lieutenant Fred McDonald now aboard Captain McDonald’s unit heading to the Philippines. Second Lieutenant Henry W. Gilson was unanimously chosen but declined. First Sergeant Valentine E. Gilson was later elected first lieutenant. He stands six feet eight inches, the tallest member of the state militia.
