The United States asks New England to raise 452 million in four days amid a war loan drive. Massachusetts leads with major subscriptions while Barre Mass reaches its minimum, and towns compete to meet quotas. Fish price complaints spark action urged by state panel

Retail fish dealers in this state are charging too high prices and steps should be taken to prevent those in the fishing industry from taking advantage of the campaign to eat fish on two days a week to conserve meat supplies. James J. Phelan, chairman of the sub committee on fish and poultry, submitted the report to Food Commissioner Endicott. The committee has not finished a full price investigation but finds no justification for higher prices this year from fishermen, wholesalers, or jobbers.
