Automobile endurance run survivors reach Hartford control
Survivors of the New York to Boston endurance rally arrived in Springfield and pushed toward Boston. A Haynes Apperson driven by H Michener crashed in sand near Yalesville Conn, destroying the front turning gear while maintaining speed. Several cars violated rules by racing on open roads, forcing Michener to quit. First to Hartford noon control was Carl Page in an Oldsmobile, followed by Knoxmobile, another Olds, and a Packard. Most finished the last mile slowly to avoid disqualification. Three hours was the minimum for the 42 miles between New Haven and Hartford. Kennedy Skinner of Boston on a De Dion briefly halted to replace a faulty spark plug, breaking a perfect score. Reliability showed, with many cars reaching without penalized stops. F A Laroche and Dorracq, after seven hours lost yesterday to mechanical failures, were back on the road.
