SAY GIRL ROBBED 1000 AT GE PAYMASTER OFFICE

The theft of 1000 dollars in ten bundles of hundred dollar bills from the General Electric paymaster’s office in Lynn on August 23 was solved with the arrest of Louise M. Lawless, 26, a trusted clerk of eight years. She allegedly stole to pay a $400 mortgage on her father’s Clinton home. Her friend Francis Turner, 26, of Lynn, was arrested for receiving stolen property with 400 dollars traced to a Boston bank in his name.

Confessions in Theft Case Tied to Turner and Miss Lawless

Both alleged confessions center on a girl who stole money and Turner who took money from her but not knowing it was stolen. Turner was bailed after being held on bonds by Judge Lummus. Miss Lawless was bailed by her father for 600 dollars. Both plead not guilty and the case was continued to October 19. Worcester schoolmate John O'Brien acted as attorney for the girl. The arrests occurred at Jesse Turner’s home on Washington Street where they were playing whist when Inspector Stacey Burches arrived. Lawless reportedly confessed after police pressure following a trip by the inspector to Clinton for an investigation. The police say recovered money includes 400 dollars delivered to the girl’s home to pay a mortgage. 200 dollars remains missing. The girl’s father Michael Lawless and sister Katherine took her home from the station.
