In a telegraphic reply from Webster, Indiana, William J. Bryan says his condition is not serious and he expects to resume his tour tomorrow. He has prior chest and lung troubles but recovered with treatment while staying with Fred White, Democratic candidate for Iowa governor.
San Francisco dispatch reports Alfred G. Vanderbilt aboard the steamer City of Pekin from Hong Kong and Yokohama. He will go home by special train from Oakland once landing is allowed. The Pekin is four days overdue and sighted near port.
Edward Atkinson of the Anti Imperialist League and Abram Hewitt of Cooper Hewitt & Co. report being swindled by a single con man who used letters of introduction to fetch 100 and 125 dollars. Atkinson and Hewitt exchange letters with police and study rogues’ gallery to identify the sharper.
