Patriotism and opposition to despotism in the Union

Returns from Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Iowa and Connecticut show a desire to remain within the Constitution under Washington and the Fathers. The people express love for the Union, support for the three-branch government, and a push to secure civil rights for blacks without subjugating whites. They denounce hypocrisy and urge intelligent action to save the country from its rulers.
