Harvard Athletics Boast Record Training Numbers

Harvard reports nearly 800 men in training across sports. New District Added For Harbor and Fortification Work

Major W. L. Fisk of the 8th Corps of Engineers is assigned to oversee harbor and coastal fortifications from Boston to Portland. He previously served in Washington and is West Point 1877 graduate, promoted to major in 1898. The northern coast district, formerly under Colonel Charles R. Suter, is split into two. Suter keeps six harbors eight rivers five bridges including Fort Warren and Fort Independence coexisting with Fort Winthrop and related works.

Five new alarm fire boxes installed near South station

Five new alarm fire boxes have been placed to protect the new South station. Box 143 will call the department to the corner of L and First streets near the power house gate. Box 164 is nearby on the same corner. Box 755 sits at the Summer street entrance of the new station. Box 758 is at the express office and Box 759 at the station power house entrance.

John H. Allen of American Tube Works on Frost Avenue Somerville was fatally injured yesterday when a live wire touched him as he attempted to turn on exterior electric lights. He was found on the ground, brought inside, and died. He served six years in the U S Navy.
