Fire bug caught in Lawrence admits setting three fires
Newell Foster, 26, confessed to burning three incendiary fires in Ward 5 near old Essex yard in Lawrence. The fires struck a Monroe Paper Mill storehouse on Merrimac Street, Hale’s bobbin shop, and an unoccupied cottage on Walnut Street, causing total losses of about 4,000, 500, and 7 to 8,000 dollars respectively. Foster, employed by Hale, had been suspected and was arrested after the Hale shop blaze. He initially denied the last fire before admitting all three.
