In Providence Otfiers were elected for the New England Dental Society with Dr. William Barker as president and Dr. James Lewis as first vice president. Dr. J B Coolidge becomes second vice president and Dr. A W Dudley secretary. Other officers include treasurer Dr. G A Perry librarian Dr. G F Waters and an executive committee of five. The meeting fixed Boston as the next gathering place.

A Tuesday Newport whirlwind damaged KE Shaw store and injured Mrs Powers. Executor to sue Dexter Savings Bank over $4000 Barron note now $2723 67 with interest.
The executive committee of the late firemen muster in Portsmouth paid all bills. Contributions totaled 3200 dollars, expenditures 3070 dollars, leaving a balance to be used for books for the public library. The Wells Memorial Workingmen's Institute held its annual meeting at Wells Memorial Hall on Friday evening. Membership rose 200 percent to 649 regular and 78 gymnasium members, with 426 new joins, 173 renewals, and 66 drops. Coal sales reached 454 tons. Officers elected: President Robert Treat Paine Jr, Vice President Charles W. Dexter, Secretary-Treasurer D. Eldredge, Auditors A. J. Carswell and J. Tewksbury, and a 40-member managing committee. A vote of thanks went to R. Reed for the late Rev. Dr. Wells portrait. Discussion on a mutual aid society was postponed to the next meeting, the first Friday in December.

Friday Johnn Theis was held in 2900 for the superior court after being charged with assault with a knife on Joseph Haney at South Margin and Nor Inna Streets the night of Sept 1. James Freeman faced a murder charge with a case continued to Oct 12 on bond 1000. John McInerney’s case for knife assault on William Mahegan on North Street Sept 17 was continued to the superior court with bond 2000.

Parnell is held on 406 dollar bond to appear October 12 for assault and battery against his wife.
