Explosion at Richardson colliery traps fourteen men

In Mahanoy City Pennsylvania on October 4 an explosion in the Richardson colliery of the Philadelphia and Reading Coal and Iron Company sent coal down a gangway and entombed fourteen miners. Eight men were reached by rescuers by nightfall, with Winfield Mack killed and J F Brennan Thomas Conville and Michael Grant fatally burned.
