Rebuttal on tariff debate by Edward Atkinson
Edward Atkinson replies to David Hall Rice on the tariff discussion between Republicans and Democrats. He accuses Rice of quoting out of context and cites data from his treatise Progress of the Nation showing how duties on wool raise cloth costs, and notes that Wells and Atkinson argued against removing raw material taxes. He states tariffs harmed domestic industry, wages, and U.S. competitiveness. Brookline, Oct. 2, 1890.
