Going Into The Steamship Business In Philadelphia

The New York Tribune reports that the steamer Etruria will bring Vice-President Frank Thompson of the Pennsylvania Railroad and director Clement Griscom to New York. They have been abroad to acquire vessels and property for a new Pennsylvania ocean line, seeking merged assets from the Tied and International Navigation to offer fast coastwise service for passengers and freight. The plan includes selling tickets for points on the railroad system and, it is said, Baltimore and Ohio Railroad may soon launch a competing steamship line.

Agreement Signed for Mexican National Road Reorganization

The banking house of Matheson & Co. of London and W. J. Palmer have signed a basis of agreement to settle all controversies and reorganize the Mexican National road for completion. Mr. Smithers of Matheson & Co. is in Mexico City, as is President Palmer of the Mexican National railway.

Railway earnings rise across lines in August report

The Louisville and Nashville shows August gross up 121770 and net up 104555 with net gain after construction costs up 84852 versus last year.
