London reports Romanians crossed the Danube and began an invasion of Bulgaria between Rustchuk and Turtukai. Analysts call it the war’s most important development in 24 hours and say a large crossing could alter the Balkans campaign.
The tentative 1917 tax list for New York City shows real estate valuation near 9.099 billion and personal property at 0.500 billion. Top individuals include Hetty Green estate at 20 million, Anthony Brady at 15.9 million, J P Morgan associates and heirs, along with Rockefeller and Harkness families holding millions in personal property.
London reports the Greek cabinet has resigned with a Central News despatch from Athens noting the development on October 2.
Boston milk producers win a key concession from Whitings and three other Greater Boston dealers. The 3000 farmers secure 50 cents per can delivered in Boston, signaling a turning point in the price dispute with large distributors.
Richard Pattee of Laconia N H secretary of the New England Milk Producers Association says dealers Whiting Burrows and Andrews have agreed to pay the 50 cent price after telegrams from Springfield Vt and Claremont N H he cites statements that the fight is won and others will follow within hours though he cannot yet reach the dealers to confirm in person. A farmers meeting in Claremont last night discussed the situation and produced the telegram from R D Hunter.
The Boston public schools opened with a record attendance decline, estimated at 15 000 to 20 000 fewer pupils than last year. Fear of infantile paralysis blamed by authorities, with Newton and other suburbs also reporting sharp drops, especially in kindergarten and primary grades.
In East Boston 51 cases prompted health concerns but morning turnout stayed low with only 30 percent of pupils at Samuel Adams and Chapman. The few early students reassured parents and afternoon attendance doubled at both schools.
Lawrence Sperry proprietor of Sperry Aeroplane Co and Captain Leo A Dewey left the navy yard for a Marblehead flight. They were not heard from by early morning raising fears they had lost their way. A radio message warned coastwise steamers to watch for the hydroaero plane.

Frederick N. Small, accused of murdering his wife Florence Arlene Small, will walk from Ossipee jail to court Thursday morning free of the charge, according to his defenders Matthews and Stevens. The Rev John M Corrigan curate at St Catherine's Church Norwood lies dying at Carney Hospital from complications after stomach surgery. Born in Hyde Park 46 years ago he studied at Manhattan College Holy Cross College and St Johns Seminary Brighton and was ordained in 1899 serving at St Johns Canton then South Lawrence and directed the Working Boys Home in this city.
Fred Marshall captain of Everett High School football team was located in Muhlenberg Pennsylvania early this morning. A late telegram from Muhlenberg confirms the recovery and status.
Fred Marshall is at Muhlenberg with us and will work for Bethlehem Steel. A telegram from the school last night says he did not enroll. Fitzgerald, a former Muhlenberg schoolmate, signed the telegram received at 2 a.m. revealing the report.
Brooklyn remains in front of Philadelphia in the National League with a narrow advantage as the race tightens. Brooklyn needs one win to secure the lead while Philadelphia must sweep four games to overtake. Brooklyn’s one win today would keep the top spot regardless of Philadelphia results. If Brooklyn loses all three, Philadelphia would tie or win the pennant.
Brooklyn beat the Giants at Ebbetts Field to seize a firm hold on the pennant race. The Robins hold a distinct advantage as the season advances.
Ferdie Schupp and Jack Coombs faced off with Colby’s ace edging Louisville’s lefty. Coombs has defeated the Giants five times this season, while Schupp won six games during the team’s streak but lost this game. The Robins were credited with four hits, two of which could have been ruled errors.
Ethel Russell aged six daughter of Mr and Mrs Leo S Russell of 18 Yerxa road North Cambridge suffered a fractured skull after being struck by an automobile near her home. The car owned by Agnes M Dorr of 2200 Massachusetts avenue North Cambridge was driven by Edward Quinn of the same address.
Forecast from Washington on October 2 says southern New England will be fair Tuesday with warmer interior and increasing cloudiness by Wednesday. Northern New England shares a similar pattern with fair conditions Tuesday and warmer interior, followed by fair weather Wednesday.
The Billy Sunday prayer campaign begins a six week effort. Last night at 8 o'clock more than 1000 Boston homes opened their doors to neighbors and others to pray for the unsaved and the success of the Sunday revival.
Reverend Charles L. Page and the Sunday committee report strong start for Boston revival prayer meetings. They predict over 3000 home sessions by Monday and more than 200000 participants before the six weeks end. Across Greater Boston dozens of parlors hosted miniature services with Scripture reading, hymns, and individual prayers.
