More than 25 000 attendees braved poor weather for the 40th annual Brockton agricultural fair opening day surpassing the previous record of 22 982. Winners include Merryman in hunters class 75 with Miss Elkins and Dreadnought in class 78 with Miss Elkins. Rita owned by Mrs. Caroline Griggs Plant won ride and drive.
