East Illinois rail surplus dip and copper rumor at peak
The Chicago & Eastern Illinois railroad shows a $158,550 surplus drawn to pay 6 per cent on preferred stock, with $59,474 more needed for sinking fund calls. A rumor of 5 to 10 million pounds of electrolytic copper at high prices circulated but could not be substantiated. Berlin reports advise no further gold demand. Oregon Improvement Company plans to default October interest on $6,468,000 second mortgage bonds of $155,245 due tomorrow, with a 90 day grace for reorganization and protective committee action.
