His Own Little Theory Blames Defeat On a Concatenation of Events
Washington reports the President insists Republicans must trust in a rose colored forecast for 1892. He believes nomination of Benjamin Harrison offers the path to victory, rejects candid assessments from Congress, and dismisses critics like Blaine McKinley Reed Cannon as mere factors in a broader concatenation of events. Prominent Republicans doubt his optimism and urge sober action.

Favors a Change of Senate Rules
Senator Edmunds supports changing Senate rules to allow majority to end debate after full discussion. He rejects a House style previous question and notes uncertainty about Republican strategy and recent defeat’s impact. He cites harmony with parliamentary law but acknowledges some would require rule changes to stop debate on amendments. Massachusetts may gain a Congress member after new apportionment. Census revisions show population growth may yield an extra seat for the state, shaping Boston area districting.
