Secretary of the Navy Long received Admiral Watson’s cable noting Zamboanga Province on Mindanao surrendered unconditionally to Commander Very on the 18th with local chiefs declaring loyalty. The event is seen as the beginning of the end of the Mindanao revolt and a blow to remaining insurrectionists in Luzon.
Natal dispatch reports British troops relieving Estcourt and advancing on Colenso and the Tugela. Buller’s column has reached Pietermaritzburg as forces press the Boer position.
