Boston Common Council Minutes Report and Orders

The Boston Common Council met with President Shepard presiding. Actions covered tax abatements for 1871 and 1572, refunds on 1873 tax, permits for a wagon shed at Dorchester Avenue, and an added Water Board appropriation of 175000. Also discussed were fire alarm protections, primary school accommodations, and confirmation of Oliver L. Shaw as Buildings Inspector. Resignations of the Mayor and an Assistant Engineer were noted, plus street matters and river/harbor boundary questions. The Brookline annexation area was debated, and soup house proposals were tabled. A commission to revise the City Charter was appointed, with Washington Park funding and public-institution site questions on the agenda.
