Barnum Will Rebuild Winter Quarters at Bridgeport
Barnum announces reconstruction of the winter quarters in Bridgeport despite earlier hints of relocation to Jersey City. The exhibitor reports extensive book sales and plans to print 100,000 more copies of his life story. A $1000 reward is offered for the incendiary. Injuries involve a man named Schmitt and two boys seen near the quarters. An elephant named Gracie died after breaking loose, found on Long Beach and to be towed out. A red headed Irish woman lost her wig to an elephant, and Drs. Seguin and Godfrey examine the elephant Alice whose stomach yielded coins, a jackknife, pipes, and pebbles.
