Three Men So Called Try to Burn Hanover Church

Watchman James Hardy spotted three men attempting to enter the vestry of Hanover’s First Congregational Church through a window at 2 am. He ordered them to stop and fired as they fled. Police and residents scoured the woods for the trio.

Three youths arrested in buggy theft tied to town fires

Hanover Four Corners police arrest Henry Newcomb Ralph Stetson and Daniel Purtle as they return in a Howland stable buggy believed stolen last night. They offer no alibi. Earlier fires at town hall and Briggs grocery were set incendiary. Newcomb is a state ward living with Rev. William H Dowden.

Slayer of 4 Dodges Posse in Utah

Ralph Lopez, who killed three peace officers and a fellow Mexican, remained at large west of the Lake mountains as a large posse of more than 100 men pressed his trail. He exposed himself to view by firing on the posse from a cliff and jeering as they sought cover. He descended from the Lake mountains into Cedar Valley about noon, likely seeking food.

Forest Fire Sweeps 300 Acres in East Greenwich

A forest fire likely started by hunters burned over 300 acres in East Greenwich Rhode Island on November 23. A large group of volunteers battled the blaze and saved several houses as much of the land scorched was mature timber.

Renal compound miracle touted in early 1900s missive

An engineer from Hamlet North Carolina recounted sending ten dollars of a renal treatment to a friend with Brights disease. A letter from John J. Fulton Co. claimed two patients improved and one was believed hopeless two years earlier, spurring promotion of Fulton’s Renal Compound and pamphlets at drug stores.

Father John's Medicine Praised by New York City Families

Mrs. Cecilia Newman of New York City reports strong help from Father John’s Medicine for coughs and fatigue. A. N. Richard of New Bedford, Massachusetts, credits it with curing his baby’s illness and building strength after other preparations failed. William F. Maguire of Long Island City notes the medicine aided his sick baby’s bronchi and recovery.

Stolen Italian mosaic tale traced to Nantucket find

Dr. Charles Harwood of Boston believes a two inch Italian mosaic bought for one dollar at a Nantucket rummage sale may be the long missing gem stolen from his mother in a Nantucket hotel robbery in the 1870s. He contacts the Nantucket purchaser and hints his father Willard Harwood would pay a high price to recover the piece, now owned by A Chenoweth who bought it at sale for the Massachusetts Babies Hospital fundraiser. The mosaic depicts ruins of the Coliseum of Rome and is set in a gold brooch with two matching earrings.

Three Men Detained After Body Found Near Woodstock

Druggist Elmer W Billings Dies at Cambridge

Elmer W Billings age 48 of Billings Stover died suddenly in the basement of his Harvard Square apothecary yesterday morning. He told a clerk he felt unwell and sat down on a packing box before being found dead. He had been a longtime fixture for Harvard students.

Kendall Dies After Weeklong Illness at Cambridge

Frank A. Kendall, office manager of the Dether Woolen Company, died at his home in Cambridge after a week with meningitis. His parents, formerly of Prairie du Lac Wisconsin, were notified and are en route to arrive today.
