The advertisement extols G. O. Blake Whiskies as the leading, pure American product for 25 years. It touts quality and reliability with 5 to 15 years aging, sold in full quarts at low prices, and notes dealer prices from 12 to 25 dollars per case based on age.
Captain-General Weyler arrived in Havana this evening from Pinar del Rio. The return has sparked much comment as officials offer no reason for leaving his command. Cuban claims say his campaign in Pinar del Rio has failed.
News from New York reports General Weyler will wait until after Christmas before attacking Cuban forces led by General Maceo in Pinar del Rio. Cuban observers call the delay a sign of weakness and question Weyler's ability to defeat Maceo despite a three to one manpower advantage.
Washington reports the Spanish legation will not protest to the U S government after Newcastle Delaware students tore down a Spanish flag. No Spanish consul in Newcastle. Both governments have an understanding on such matters, reducing the incident to little importance.
Official field reports recount limited clashes at Matanza in Havana with small losses on both sides. Further details continued on page 2.

In Taunton, at 11 o'clock, Fred L Luther shot Mrs Abbie Eliza Barber in her Ingell Street home and then killed himself with a second pistol shot. The bodies lay in Washburn's undertaking rooms. Etta Barber identified Luther at the scene. Police took Luther’s body to the undertaker’s, with no autopsy planned.
After-dinner speeches at Tremont Temple voiced opposition to placing Macmonnies's bronze Bacchante in the Public Library court. The Rev C W Southgate led a resolution criticizing the library art commission's reversal and urging restraint, while defending the statue's artistic merit and nudity as appropriate when carefully chosen. At Bumstead Hall the Democratic convention nominated seven aldermanic candidates led by Barry Dean Donovan and Mahoney. A late surge by Barry and Lee kept them from being blocked. Ward 19 witnessed a bitter protest over Cleary delegates amid accusations of fraud.
