Washington Storm Ravages White House District Music Hall
A violent wind and rain storm swept Washington at noon causing major damage. The Metzerett Music Hall under construction on Twelfth street collapsed walls onto two storefronts at 1110 and 1112 F street, burying workers and injuring Clara Greenburg and Ida White before a death later confirmed. Lightning struck a gas reservoir at Twenty sixth and G streets, releasing 500,000 feet of gas and tearing apart cast iron supports. The White House balustrade and east portico roof were damaged, with communications to the building cut and the President briefed while his family was unharmed. Damage to Winder’s building and utilities was reported, and the gas company valued losses at 50,000 dollars with no insurance.

The will of Charles V Spear of Oberlin Ohio who died in Constantinople Turkey was filed for probate in Dedham Massachusetts. He bequeaths 10000 to the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Mission and 10000 to the American Missionary Association all in Boston and New York City respectively. Additional gifts include 5000 to the American Home Missionary Society and 5000 to the Oberlin College with life payment conditions for Mrs Susan M Clark. The codicil dated 1891 leaves Oberlin College 60000 more with life payments to Mary A Spear and Alice B Ring. Executor named is George N Spear of Brook.

The actor William J. Florence was buried after funeral services at St. Agnes Church with a procession to Greenwood Cemetery. A powerful blast shook a six year old Boston Calcium Light Company building on Ulles Street jarring tenants including Bent & Co and a furniture factory. The owner H W Evans lives on the middle floor above Bent & Co, with Reed wheelwright and Turner bending works nearby also affected. No injuries reported beyond a shaken sense of fear and ringing ears as telegraphs were sent to families and Bent & Co in Chicago.
