A woman about 45 walked into the surf at Revere Beach near Oak Island yesterday afternoon at 3 o'clock and drowned herself. The act was witnessed by Mark W. Chipman of Lynn, who could not reach her in time.

Lieutenant Hawkins and Officer Allen found a woman in the water after a lifeboat search near Revere Beach. Officer O Hara recovered the body about twenty minutes later in five feet of water. The deceased, about 45, stood five feet four inches, wore a black outfit and white shirtwaist. A key and coins were in her pockets and glasses in a case marked by a Brooklyn optician. This marked the first self-drowning death since the park takeover in 1896.
