One of London's most disastrous fires in history erupted shortly after 1 PM in a large block of buildings east of Adler's Gate Street between that street and Red Cross Street. The fire caused extensive damage and financial loss, with reports noting a total near 25 million dollars in losses and rapid spread across the dense area.
Germantown reported a holdup by three youths at 6 p.m. on Washington Street. Fulton Ramsey, 34, of Roslindale, was forced to surrender $15 and his watch while the criminals fled on his horse drawn wagon. Police prowled the area overnight with station 13 and surrounding posts alerted for suspects.
Lieutenant A B Jackson A S A military instructor of cadets at the University of Nebraska died today after an operation for appendicitis performed Tuesday. Appointed to West Point in July 1879 from Massachusetts, he was unmarried and his mother lives in Washington. the body will likely be sent there.
