Auction of fine wines and rare European books to start

A Boston firm announces midweek sales at 11 o clock of over 4000 bottles of wines and liquors including sherry Madeira and Port plus 130 demijohns all with no reserve. A major collection of European books from London will also be offered on Thursday at 10 o clock with illustrated volumes and classics from Royal Theatricals to Shakspeare and Milton in lavish bindings.

United States Hamburg Bremen and Lübeck Convention Published

President Franklin Pierce proclaims a 1852 Washington treaty setting extended consul jurisdiction between the US and the free Hanseatic cities Hamburg Bremen Lübeck. The accord covers arbitration rights for crews, term limits, ratification, and mutual delivery of criminals with Prussia.

The President proclaims that the convention of June 16 1552 between the United States Prussia and other Germanic states applies to Bremen the free Hanseatic city which has declared accession Bremen's declaration was exchanged in Washington on the 14th with Rudolph Schleiden and William L Marey observing and the proclamation is issued to ensure observance in good faith by the United States and its citizens Done at Washington October 15 1853 and in the seventy eighth year of independence

Mecklenburg Accession to 1852 US Prussia Fugitives Pact

The Mecklenburg Strelitz government accedes to the 1852 convention between the United States and Prussia for mutual delivery of criminals. Franklin Pierce signs, noting the accession declared to the US State Department and dated January 26, 1854 with Secretary of State W L Marcy.

United States and Prussia Accord Also Includes Württemberg
