20 LIVES LOST ON STEAMER ELLA

A Halifax despatch reports the Norwegian steamer Ella owned by Black Diamond Line lost off Belle Isle during a three day Newfoundland gale. All hands perished. about 20 crew survived 36 hours lashed to rigging before rescue. The wreck, with cargo, is total.

Titania Wreck Near Cape Race Claims One Life

The bark Titania en route Liverpool to St. John’s Newfoundland was wrecked in dense fog near Cape Race. One man died while attempting to reach safety as crew sought shelter. The incident occurred yesterday morning and details remain scant.

Small schooner Christie Campbell sinks at Grand Narrows

The British schooner Christie Campbell of 566 tons, en route from Georgetown to Sydney with produce, struck the Grand Narrows bridge in the Halifax area on a Saturday evening and sank in five minutes. Five crew escaped to the bridge, losing all belongings. Vessel and cargo valued at 2900 dollars.

Two Babies Die in Fire in Watertown

Two young children Jennie Kendall five and Francis Kendall four died in a Watertown house fire at 5:30 PM. Their mother Mrs. Kendall and a friend attempted rescues as flames and smoke trapped them. Fireman Clark suffered a serious hand injury from an axe. The blaze caused about 1500 dollars in damage.
