Lynching in Frederick Missouri Man Burned After Assault
James Goings, a young Black man, assaulted Miss Lillie Jones in Hamilton Geisbert’s home near Frederick, Missouri. He was captured by a mob, taken to the jail, and hanged from a tree after a crowd demanded swift justice. Sheriff Zimmermann fired warnings as about 300 residents pressed the jail. The mob broke in, dragged Goings out, and turned him over to a rope and lamp noose, ending his life with a fatal shot. A Salvation Army worker prayed with him before the execution. The act was framed as a collective punishment to deter Black intruders in the county.
