Indian Peace Commissioners report at special exhibition meeting
Special despatch notes the Indian Peace Commissioners meeting with four members present. Sub-Committee minutes and the general commission report were approved and sent to Secretary Cox for inclusion in his annual report. The Purchases Committee said they secured goods for Indians at the lowest market prices. The Commission also met the President and Secretaries Cox and Belknap. Defalcations in Navy Paymaster accounts are less than first thought, with some defaulters able to straighten their ledgers. The Navy Department moves to prosecute those owing over one hundred thousand dollars, with bonds forfeited. An unrelated note mentions another cousin.
