Harvard undergraduates raced to battle a mysterious blaze on Dunster Street Cambridge destroying two sheds a stable and a dwelling house owned by the Bay State Fuel Company with an estimated loss of 7000. The first alarm at 9 40 p m drew a crowded Union as students prepared for the Harvard Dartmouth football game.
A mass meeting adjourned and students on Dunster street rushed to the Bay State Fuel Company shed fire. They helped fire crews, rescued two horses from the adjacent stable, while the Lamonti family narrowly escaped with loss of clothing and belongings. The blaze began after a gasoline explosion, gutting the shed and stable and injuring no one. Nelson Morris of Chicago and Douglas Lawson led the student rescue band.

Heavy seas and a gale swamped the surf boat twice, forcing abandonment. The unknown vessel later appeared offshore and may be revisited at dawn if conditions improve.
Exhausted sailors from the British schooner North American were rescued at Gourie as fierce waves swept the wreck. Captain Dorion and five crewmen fought the surf, but life savers braved peril to bring them to safety after a perilous rescue operation.
