A large fire in Durham North Carolina originated in the grocery store of R T Atwater and swept thirteen brick tobacco buildings including Parrish’s warehouse. The blaze spread to Winstead & Co Varnish & Co and the Hurkam Bank before moving east and burning Edward Jiyon’s residence. After about four hours the fire ceased. Losses include 1,500,000 pounds of tobacco and extensive property damage with insured totals around 200,000 and overall losses not under 3800,000.
