Born in Boston Myth Provokes Loud Boston Applause
A speaker at Tremont Temple mocks Boston pride as a little woman declares she was not born in Boston nor Massachusetts. The audience erupts at the repeated line that “twas born in Boston” and the piece notes how this claim, repeated at gatherings from lectures to WCTU meetings, grants social legitimacy. The essay argues against claiming respectability solely by lineage or distance from Boston.

Woman Prophesies Boston Birth Right In Von Barnekow Heirs Suit
Berwin Nov 15 The case of Mrs Kathrine Robinson and Miss Ida Green for the estate of the late Baron von Barnekow ends in favor of the claimants. Miss Green is entitled to call herself Baroness von Barnekow and to receive the baron's property after debts. Baron Kjell von Barnekow, a German army officer, fled to America, worked as a hotel runner in San Francisco as Fred Green, married a girl named Galligan, and had a daughter. He deserted his family, returned to Germany and, without divorce, married again. In 1887 he died, leaving a second marriage illegal. Mrs Green later married a sailor named Robinson. A sister Countess von Moltke helped expose the truth, establishing the legal heirs to a heavily encumbered estate. The piece notes a Bostonian birth right remark and local pride.
