He says New Hampshire voters approve of the President and for 188 Atlantic era politics, Cleveland remains favored while Blaine’s nomination would push Democrats to renominate Cleveland.
Chicago November 14. A Knights of Labor meeting read Powderly’s order to end the strike and return to work but delegates split with strong opposition among Knights while trade unionists favored obedience. Foremen prepared for a return to work as Armour packing houses set a plan to rehire workers and the Central Labor Union urged sympathy for the strikers.
A circular announces a national convention of all United States and Canadian trades unions to begin December 8 in Columbus. The aim is to form a trades congress to organize unions and assemblies, influence legislation, and promote peaceful labor action, with representation based on local union size and three months of prior organization.
The Hon. Gleph Br Baker died suddenly of apoplexy at his Dennisport home after a brief illness. Born in Dennis in 1827 he held many town and state offices and served in the House of Representatives and Senate. He was a Deputy Collector of Customs and an honorary Mason, leading roles in banking and local business. Survived by a widow and five children, with relatives in Scribner Nebraska.
Dorcas Chapin widow of Chester W. Chapin and member of Congress died in Springfield. Born in Cicero she married in 1525 and moved west in 1880. Survived by three children including Mrs Bliss of Boston, Mrs Janes A. Rumnerill of Boston, and Chester W. Chapin Jr. of New York. Her gifts include 10000 to the city library 3000 to the Home for the Friendless 3000 to the Old Ladies Home 20606 to the Cemetery Association 116090 to Amherst College and other benefactions quietly given.

In St Louis on November 14 Congressman John M Glover and watchman John B Waters of the Salvage Corps house held a fifth discussion over a law case involving Mrs Ferris the watchman’s step mother as plaintiff Glover acted for the defendant and Waters claimed Glover spoke disrespectfully toward the woman despite Waters injuries from a prior fire.
