Stanley and Ward feud over alleged deception in letters

In New Haven on November 13 Henry M. Stanley responds to Herbert Ward's claim of being anxious to exonerate himself from alleged misappropriation. Train Plunges Through Lake Labish Trestle Tragedy

The southbound Overland Pacific plunged through a trestle over Lake Labish near Salem after an apparent rail removal by tramps. Incendiary Strikers Pursue Fire at Concord Depot

Nashua reports at 12:30 this morning that Concord railroad strikers tried to burn the freight station. They bored a kerosene barrel, spread oil, and set a torch, but night crew found the fire in time. A man carrying oily waste fled. Militia Clash With Students After Salute Turns Violent

In Ann Arbor on November 13 a mounted militia saluted a groom at a wedding scene, drawing about 1000 students. Lieutenant Granger ordered a charge as students surged, leading to a deadly hand to hand battle. Irving Dennison of Toledo died from injuries after being struck earlier.

Columbus Ohio November 13 ex President Cleveland attended the celebration of Allen G Thurman seventy seventh birthday hosted by the Thurman Club. A mass of national Democratic leaders and other notable guests arrived by train and were welcomed with cheers. A noon salute and a grand banquet followed at the governor’s mansion and capitol with a long eastwest table for dignitaries. More than 1000 guests, including Republicans, plus many lawmakers, gathered to honor Thurman and show support for Democratic leadership.
