Captain George E. Goodrich 74, a former Fitchburg postmaster and Chelsea Soldiers' Home inmate, died at Haymarket Relief Hospital from a fractured skull after an automobile strike in the afternoon.
A man crossing at 26 Hanover Street was hit by an automobile driven by Robert Smith of Roxbury. Smith faces manslaughter charges after initial assault and battery booking and a $1000 bail. The victim was nearsighted, and Captain Goodrich, husband to Mrs. Susan M. C. Goodrich, had been visiting family from Soldiers Home.
