Conover in jail as perjury case looms in Baltimore
Forty two thousand unskilled laborers came to this country from Europe last year. There is a great scarcity of ministers in the Church of England. Sanford Conover, the witness in the conspiracy trial, remains confined in the city jail. He denies perjury charges and has not secured bail. The Baltimore court case on the contested Commission for Police awaits Judge Bartel's ruling. Rumors say unseating the old Commissioners could void the municipal election. Maryland poll returns are due within five days. Gov Swann may convene the legislature by early next month as petitions push for fast action.
