Island fishing boast inspires seaside verse from 1847
A Nahant fishing party boasted of landing a 194 pound black fish off Marblehead. A charcoal wall inscription on the wreck island bears a later verse lampooning the brag, likened to a Sir John Moore burial ode, dated November 1847. The verse recounts the huge catch and its grisly detailing.
