Early New England nail maker dies at 97
Enoch Winkley of Amesbury Malls, pioneer machine cut nail producer, died November 9 at 97. His partner John S. Felton founded the business. Winkley mentored a new era in nails though later mental decline clouded his mind. He was grandfather to vocalist Sarah Barton. Other obituaries note Fayette McMullen, former Virginia congressman and first Washington Territory governor, killed November 9 at 77 near Wytheville Va. Also remembered are Capt Elisha Wiley of Wellfleet Mass and Col E L Drake of New Bethlehem Pa who drilled Titusville first oil well.

Creditors Seek Joint Recovery Against Illinois and St. Louis Bridge Company
A bill in equity filed by Missouri judgment creditors seeks to apply remaining unpaid stock liabilities against John Jeffries Jr and the executors of Gardner Colby. The case, defending jurisdiction and survivability of the insolvent corporation, argues for the stockholders’ contribution to satisfy plaintiff claims. Proceedings include a demurrer and defense by counsel Warren Brandeis and Russell Putnam, with Judge Neison presiding. The Damonte fraud case and bankruptcy schedule omissions are also noted, with trial continuation undecided and civil jury trial calendar pending.
