Fire at Boston Dyewood Works Engulfs Portions of Buildings
A major blaze in East Boston destroyed parts of the Boston Dyewood and Chemical Company on Border Street. Discovered about 1 30 PM, the fire spread rapidly through three buildings including a brick 3 story main structure and an old wooden building. Stock and machinery were heavily damaged with losses estimated around 40 000 to 60 000 dollars, though insurance is believed to cover the cost. The president and officials of the stock company were named as Charles F Thayer Joseph E Stevens and Charles E Whittemore. Additional fires reported later at Commercial Point Dorchester and Cambridge Street involve a chimney and a small store fire causing minor losses.
