After Election Stocks Rally Amid Economic Optimism

Following the election, stock markets rose in Boston and New York as confidence grew in a potential permanent shift. Strong gains were seen in Atchison and other rail shares while sugar buys and banking indicators suggested continued activity. copper remained dull and annual meetings were planned for West End street railway stockholders.

Indiscriminating Law Case Sentences Five Officials

In Plymouth Superior Court, John C. Sanborn and Christopher T. Bailey, railroad policemen, receive four months each in the House of Correction for involvement in the Abington riot of 1898. Angus L. Frazer, Emery B. Bryant, and John Bolen are sentenced to two months each. The action stemmed from attempts to block electric railway workers from crossing Old Colony tracks. The case, ongoing since 1893, saw Judge Sherman deny defense pleas for leniency and uphold penalties despite prior agreements alleged by counsel. Bailey had previously served as a turnkey at the same institution.
