Irving shines as Mephistopheles in a staged Faust

The review praises Mr Irving's Mephistopheles as the standout performance, with his sinister voice and expressive face conveying malignity especially in scenes with Margaret and in church. Miss Terry as Margaret is less impressive, lacking dramatic intensity. Alexander's Faust comes off as dry, while Mrs Chippendale's Martha is well restrained and competent others perform with credible skill.

Consolidation plan for Kansas City railroads proposed

An official notice to stockholders outlines a merger of the Kansas City Fort Scott and Memphis with the Kansas City Springfield and Memphis lines. Fort Scott would absorb Memphis stock, with a 6 percent forty year bond mortgage, and bonds exchanged for consolidation bonds to pay existing debts. The plan promises improved management, a projected $2,000,000 bond surplus for improvements, and a likely 5 percent dividend, contingent on stockholder approval and proxy voting.

Book notes on legends and Cary poems in review

A critical notice discusses Legends of the French Provinces translated by Mrs. M Carey and a new edition of Early and Late Poems by Alice and Phabe Cary. It praises genuine fairy tales yet decries overmodernizing folklore and judges the Cary poems uneven though promising, noting untutored sweetness and possible stronger poetic discipline.
