Engineer H A Hancox completed a survey for a Marlboro to South Sudbury railroad and now hired by the Assabet Manufacturing Co of Maynard to survey a four and a half mile line to South Sudbury. Work to start next week. both lines likely built in spring.
In Salem on November 6 the Prohibitionists opened their city campaign with a caucus. William Leonard was unanimously nominated for Mayor. Aldermanic candidates include Ward 1 Charles H. Goss Ward 2 Ezra Woodbury Ward 3 Levi Wiggin Ward 4 R. B. Gifford Ward 5 James Gamble Ward 6 John J. Mooney at large James B. Gifford.
Columbus reports Campbell leads statewide by 12 000 to 15 000 with Democrats likely controlling both houses. Governor Foraker congratulates Campbell while Allen Thurman relays a message to Grover Cleveland. Unofficial counts show House 61 Democrats 58 Republicans and Senate 19 Democrats 17 Republicans. Cincinnati notes Campbell plurality 8905 with Powell’s 1887 margin cited in four counties.
President Harrison remained calm when questioned on Virginia Ohio and Iowa results. He suggested he would share information publicly only when impartial and recalled Cleveland's practice. He noted Mahone's Virginia defeat as a warning to Republicans and blamed Prohibitionists for Iowa losses.

Des Moines Iowa November 6 Complete returns from ninety five counties and estimates from four more show Boies Democrat with about 7000 plurality and the entire Democratic State ticket victorious. Legislature likely to be 28 Republicans 22 Democrats in Senate and 52 Republicans 47 Democrats with one doubtful.
The report notes Democratic gains across nearly all counties with only a few exceptions. Boies supporters claim majorities exceed six thousand in several contests while Senator Allison fears potential losses in the Legislature.
Richmont Va Nov 6 Out of 100 counties 79 heard from 14 cities 9. Every city and county shows a gain for McKinney over 1888 votes Democrats have 70 House 29 Senate. Richmond Despatch tabulated state vote giving McKinney 41000 majority. Governor Hill of New York congratulates Governor Lee who replies with thanks acknowledging Virginia’s struggle against federal influence and patronage.
In Omana Nebraska on November 6 returns were incomplete but indicate a Republican win in the second district congressional race by 2000 to 3000. The party also appears to have carried the Supreme Court seat and university regents by 20000 to 25000. Douglass county backs the Democratic ticket except for one commissioner.
The steamer Faraday arrived off Coney Island and began laying the shore end of the new Western Union cables to Canso Nova Scotia. The work will splice the cable about forty miles south of Fire Island and complete the first of two lines to connect New York City with Great Britain. The project aims to provide uninterrupted winter service.
George W. Childs denies having expressed any view that General Grant’s body would be removed from New York. He states he has no opinion on the matter, leaving the subject to Mrs. Grant, and clarifies the Associated Press that he never voiced such an opinion.
The steamers Teutonic and City of New York arrived from Liverpool racing side by side past Sandy Hook. Teutonic finished first by 25 minutes with a total voyage time of 6 days 6 hours 50 minutes. Daily runs cited for both ships show Teutonic ahead by a narrow margin.
Ex President Cleveland and Mrs Cleveland arrive from New York for the wedding of Mr Bayard to Miss Clymer tomorrow afternoon. They attend the ceremony and stay with Ex Marshal Wilson, with Wormley’s hosting the Cavendish guests.
This afternoon District Officer Joseph E. Shaw arrested Peter J. Lyons John W. Philpot and Henry F. Croshen in Lynn charged with selling lottery tickets.

London reports state Mr Molloy claimed Parnellites possess documents linking government officials to an Irish conspiracy and planned exposure after Parliament opens. Sir Henry James defended Times charges, citing Davitt and Hartmann speeches and alleging Parnellitas’ toleration of violence and crime amid Home Rule agitation.

London November 6 William O'Brien applied for a new trial against Lord Salisbury. Counsel Gully argued that Salisbury coercively charged O'Brien with inciting murder and robbery using a speech urging boycott as justification, a defence deemed inadequate and contrary to facts. The case was adjourned.
