A 13 year old girl Annie Broudy rescued her sister and baby brother from a fire at 211 Brighton Avenue Allston last night with her parents away she led the escape from an attic room as flames consumed the home two crippled boys received help and were saved alongside the siblings by the brave girl.
A barn fire started only a few feet from the house and killed three horses. The blaze burned the upper part of the structure and prompted emergency response.
The state and federal animal industry bureaus reported foot and mouth disease on 18 cattle at Amherst cattle dealer George Henry's farm. Immediate isolation measures were enacted to prevent wider spread and avert statewide quarantine of livestock.
A broadcast warning sent through the State alerts cattlemen to the disease risk and pledges vigorous steps to guard against its spread and prevent further cases within the State.
A Harvard Observatory bulletin notes a photograph of Encke's comet with a well marked tail taken yesterday. Director Edward C. Pickering confirms the image. A radio gram from Astronomer Royal Dyson reports the comet at seventh magnitude from Barcelona on Oct 26. The Harvard shot confirms brightness.
Portland and Gloucester times provide dawn and dusk data, moon phases from last quarter to full, and solar events. It lists sunrise at 6:22, sunset 4:33, moon at 6:37 pm with phase changes on Nov 10 17 24 and Dec 2, plus star positions Venus Jupiter Saturn. Also notes auto lamps at 5:03 and 5:33 and birthdays and battles like Sousa 1864 and Droop Mountain 1863.
Fair conditions for Boston and vicinity with Friday and Saturday outlooks. In Washington the forecast for New England calls for fair weather Friday and Saturday with fresh northwest winds.
The missing Somerville man Horace S. Bickford was found dead in the Merrimac River near Tyngsboro days after he vanished on the eve of his marriage to Maud Allen of Norwich. An autopsy and papers found on his person indicated death by own action. Authorities confirmed identity through clothing notes amid family uncertainty.
George F. Warner was arrested in Andover charged with the murders of Mr. and Mrs. Henry E. Wiggins. He admitted shooting them and expressed satisfaction. Warner, whose wife is a Wiggins daughter, will have a Springfield hearing tomorrow after being found in a pasture near his mother’s home.
In Water town an 18-year-old, Joseph Bocadero of Forest street, and 16-year-old Garrett Kelly of Waverley avenue were returning home after a pheasant hunt when Bocadero received a full charge of shot from his friend's gun. Kelly says the weapon discharged accidentally. Bocadero may lose his right arm.
A Moscow Odessa despatch says 12 Turkish and German transports carrying coal were sunk near Uzungulchak on the Anatolian coast. The report notes the loss on the day after a London dispatch. Details remain unconfirmed.
News from Valparaiso and Santiago report five ships missing after the engagement off the Chilean coast. The missing vessels include British cruisers Good Hope and Glasgow, British transport Otranto, and German cruisers Leipzig and Bremen. A Glasgow wireless call was the last message from Rear Admiral Cradock's squadron, with reports of the Monmouth sinking and an explosion aboard the Good Hope. The Nurnberg searched overnight for the Good Hope but found nothing.
About 650 men aboard the Monmouth were lost beneath the waves. Admiral Cradock led 900 men on the Good Hope. The fate of the Glasgow and the transport Otranto remains unclear, with continuation noted on Page 14 First Col.
Dr. Farrar Cobb a leading Back Bay physician along with a trained nurse were injured when his touring car collided with Levi Wales’s car on Washington street Wellesley Hills. Both cars wrecked and Wales sustained serious internal injuries while the nurse and Cobb were unable to complete the Framingham call and were returned to Boston.
Chicago November 5 Women gain full suffrage in eleven states and Alaska territory new returns show Nevada and Montana also granting equal suffrage. Montana led by 1317 votes and Nevada by 3900. states include Wyoming 1890 Colorado 1893 Utah 1896 Idaho 1896 Washington 1910 California 1912 Arizona 1912 Kansas 1912 Oregon 1912 Nevada 1914 Montana 1914.
Paris dispatch reports American marines have been landed in Beirut Syria for protection of U S interests as the Temps relays a message from a source in the region.
Washington officials had not confirmed the Beirut landing of American marines. The armored cruiser North Carolina was in Beirut harbor, possibly landed a detachment to guard the American consulate, under an understanding with local authorities. The Tennessee remained near Alexandria to handle emergencies.

Belgian, British, and French forces attack Nieuwpoort, repulsed. Turks clash with Russians. French trenches near Arras briefly lost then retaken. London says Turkey at war with Britain.
