In his first speech after the election Fatt declares that every law abiding business may proceed energetically while enterprises operating within statutes may do so without fear of government interference. He pledges strict enforcement against dishonest methods across federal jurisdictions.
The New York papers claimed Miss Eleanora Sears was betrothed to Harold Vanderbilt. Miss Sears told the Post last night that the report was a mistake and that she is not engaged to the Vanderbilt heir.
President Eliot tells Harvard undergraduates that he resigns only before his health or faculties fail. He emphasizes he is not sick or tired and remains in good health to the best of his knowledge.
President elect Taft spoke to Cincinnati audience at the Commercial Club outlining a lawful path to prosperity and recounting campaign hardships from a human perspective. The remarks highlighted adherence to law and viewed the nation’s future with cautious optimism.

President Eliot urges Harvard students to elect a young, noble, active man for the presidency. He calls for someone willing to undertake a laborious and influential role with untiring energy to raise the university to a higher plane.
After a mass Harvard rally, President Eliot appeared at his residence to address students. He states he is healthy and resigning at 45 to allow new leadership, calls for a successor to guide the university to a higher plane, and reflects on forty years of service to the esteemed institution.
During a Glendale Park football game on November 5 Z W Zeiri, a Winchester resident, was surrounded by a crowd and accused of being a spy. The crowd nearly rioted but police intervened and arrested him. he carried a loaded revolver and was later released.
In Lowell Junction a railroad crash injured Joseph W. Wheatley and others. Wheatley and a Dover, New Hampshire woman were shaken, with Wardwell and Nichols treated for injuries. In New York Charles W. Morse and Alfred H. Curtis were found guilty of misapplication and falsifying bank books. Jury acquitted conspiracy. Bail denied. jailed until tomorrow.
Two unknown men were cut by flying glass in an accident at Prison Point. The injuries are described as minor. No further details on the circumstances or identities are provided.
Two small wrecks on the Boston and Maine system yesterday left several people shaken, cut by flying glass, or struck by timber. The first at Prison Point near North Station involved the Waltham local diverging into the Troy express. The second at Lowell junction saw a two car passenger train collide with a light engine.
An outbound Waltham train and the Troy express collide at a crossover near a drawbridge. Slow speeds kept damage manageable as the smoker car of the Troy train toppled, with passengers struck by flying glass but few injuries reported. Continued on Page 3-Fourth Column.
In a tense courtroom Mrs. Morse and Mrs. Curtis waited through the day for the verdict. Mrs. Curtis showed emotion while Morse sobbed as the jury returned to discuss the conspiracy charge. News of the decision spread quickly to the principals and spectators gathered in Broadway ambience.
Morse and Curtis were convicted of misapplication of funds from the National Bank of North America. The prosecution alleged Morse obtained large loans via dummies and Curtis as president aided the illegal loans. The funds financed Morse ice pools and steamship operations.
The freight steamer H. M. Whitney of the Metropolitan Steamship line was sunk tonight in the East River while bound for Boston. The vessel valued at 500000 dollars is a total loss, and it is not believed that any of the cargo worth 300000 dollars can be recovered.
A steamer collided with Steep Rock to avoid tug and scows, creating a large waterline hole. Nine stokers escaped from the engine room as fires were extinguished within a minute. Last April the H. M. Whitney struck Table Rock further upstream, taking two weeks to free and costing $125,000 in repairs.
Milton Bartley, president of the American Nut and Bolt Fastener Company in Pittsburg, announced a 20 percent wage increase for workers starting today. He cited increased business from the preceding two months and tied the raise to the outcome of the Taft election.
