Veteran Brighton leader retires from the field as Curtis Hart and Sanford are expected to seek the Republican mayoralty nomination with a November 29 caucus. Jesse Gove pledges support for Hart if he runs. Gove also notes an unpledged delegation likely backing Hart or Sanford.
TM Gove and Chairman Joseph Maccabe discussed mayoral candidacy. Questioning aimed at each about nomination allegiance. Ex Mayor Curtis, recently married, declined comment. his brother Nelson claimed Curtis would run and fight to win.
Sanford declares he remains an out and out candidate and will fight to the finish. He adds that if defeated he will support the party’s nominee regardless of who it is.
Ex mayor Hart says he will not run in the coming caucuses but has not decided on seeking a convention nomination. He will consider friends urging him to run and may support someone at the caucuses, but he would rather not state his choice yet.

Stephen Matthews of Boston was arrested for alleged assault and robbery of John Sweeney of Amesbury who lost a watch and money. Sweeney's watch was found in Matthews's possession. John McDonald was also arrested on suspicion. police say they lured the victim to the Boston and Maine tracks near Bruce's bakery and beat him after he spent his funds.
The Citizens' Union executive committee reports evidence of large scale fraud in New York City on election day. They intend to initiate prosecutions and claim the irregularities are of a magnitude that could markedly affect official returns.
British ambassador Sir Julian Pauncefote, just back from London, will discuss with Secretary Sherman the reopening of negotiations for an Anglo American arbitration treaty. Sherman already indicated the President would favor reopening. Pauncefote learned British views and current mood. all signs in London are favorable to arbitration.
Augustus Hanson, 18, of South Easton, Navy, has slept for a week. On Sunday evening he retired about 10 o'clock, and at midnight his brother found him in bed apparently asleep with clothes on. Attempts to wake him failed. Dr. Bleeck could not restore consciousness, and Hanson remains dormant.
