Discipline and Fire Drill Salvage Prescott School Fire

Shortly before 2 PM a fire broke out on the third floor of Prescott School Somerville a three story brick structure on Pearl street. Principal Samuel A Johnson alerted the fire signal and 500 students formed in lines and quietly evacuated under teachers guidance. Johnson pulled the alarm as firefighters arrived and extinguished the blaze with little delay. Chief Hopkins estimates damage around 300 dollars and suspects mice and matches as the cause.

Marsh Returns to Philadelphia After Seven-Year Absence

Gideon W. Marsh, fugitive president of the Keystone National Bank, surrendered to his bondsman in Philadelphia after seven and a half years abroad. U S District Attorney Beck announced warrants for Marsh and a hearing was set for tomorrow. The bank failed in 1891 after a run and revelations of looting. City Treasurer John Bardsley faced arrest and a lengthy sentence, later pardoned.
