The United States Shipping Board tanker Avondale, 3511 tons, bound from New York to Greenock Scotland, is disabled in mid Atlantic from engine trouble. A radio message reports a northwest gale and heavy seas with the ship about 1500 miles east of New York. The vessel left New York on October 11.

Wounded Boy Hit by Guard Fire on Roxbury Street

A 13 year old, Francis Meninmen of 41 Youman Street Roxbury, was wounded when a State Guardsman fired into the ground to frighten a gang of boys on Larkin Street. A stone rebounded from the ground, struck him in the face, and he was taken to City Hospital with a lacerated facial wound. Police and guardsmen offered no comment.
