President Taft viewed from the Mayflower on a windy bridge the largest U.S. fighting fleet ever assembled. He praised treaties with Great Britain and France as steps toward peace but warned disarmament remains unlikely for a long period.
President Taft urged Congress to build at least two great battleships annually until the Panama Canal opens. He said the canal would double naval efficiency and that one battleship a year would no longer suffice to keep the United States at the forefront of world power. Thousands joined in honoring the hundredth year celebration.
Clarence V. Richeson formally resigns as pastor of Immanuel Church Cambridge. He sent a resignation letter to Charles F Cummings clerk of the church who plans to inform the finance commission and may release copies to the press if authorized.
After a meeting the church will discuss accepting the pastor’s resignation. If 30 members in good standing attend tonight, the decision will be final. Richeson reportedly sent a letter of innocence rather than mail the resignation after arrest for a murder. The postmarked note came from Back Bay station.

The Telephone Pioneers of America held its first convention yesterday at the Hotel Somerset with about 350 attendees from across the nation. Theodore N. Vail of Boston elected president, honoring Alexander Graham Bell noted as the inventor.
Harvard departs for Princeton as Inglesh High and Boston Latin lose key players. Wolgast and Wells unavailable while boxing declines in England. Ian Roxbury defeats Volkwana 7 66 to 5 for Harvard Tech cross country. Yale trains with one injured player unavailable.
District Attorney Pelletier asks both Republican and Democratic state committee treasurers to produce accounting books. Chairman Hatfield blames a faulty card index for a campaign contribution solicitation from Boston Blower Company. Foss accuses United Shoe Machinery Company of paying for ads to aid the Democratic party and alleges Boston Herald printed an Outlook article defending Schedule K without proper advertisement notice.
District Attorney Pelletier orders H Clifford Gallagher and Charles F Riordan to submit campaign books today. Both parties must account for expenditures and contributions to date after Governor Foss alleged violations of corporate contribution and unsigned advertisement laws. Pelletier issues a formal statement.
Chairman Charles P. Hatfield explains a probe into alleged violations of 1908 and 1907 acts restricting political contributions by businesses and unsigned ads. In Lynn on November 2 Mrs. George A. Hibbard widow of Boston’s former mayor was performing in The Lottery Man at the Auditorium when sulphur flames from a prop match set her hair ablaze. Fellow actor Wyerley Birch reacted quickly and saved her from serious injury.
Birch discovered the blaze on Birch’s hair and extinguished it with his hand. Mrs. Hibbard and her mother did not notice the incident. Mrs. Hibbard remained uninjured while Birch was so unnerved he could not perform at the morning rehearsal.
