James O Kaley alias Morgan finished a three year sentence at Concord and was rearrested and taken to Pittsfield Massachusetts on a forgery charge. Fifty years of Manchester Universalist church founded were celebrated with an address by Rev L F McKinney. In Portsmouth Supreme Court Walter W Danford of Deerfield was sentenced to pay 75 dollars for birth to date 150 dollars weekly till the child is ten and to pay prosecution costs. he refused to pay and went to jail.
The state shows low female participation in school matters with only eight of 314 eligible women voting in Burlington while 20 of 241 towns have women as superintendents. A Townshend elder, Thompson Holbrook, disappeared and was found after days on a Brattleboro hill. Estella J. Rundlett, a New Haven music teacher, disappeared last Thursday and was found at Newport Vermont. She was brought to West Goffstown by her sister Mrs. Charlies R. Her brother William A. traveled to Newport to verify her identity. Her condition improved after returning home, though she cannot fully explain how she ended up in Newport.
Sam Pine, condemned to 14 years for burglary and horse stealing, escaped last night from Bridgeport jail by sawing through bars and disabling the room door lock. Schools present include Hyde Park 409, Chelsea high school 150, Oakdale under Mr Nash, Eaton family school led by A H Eaton, Hanover academy and high school under Mr Nash, 40 from the home for aged women, and a boys class from the industrial home led by Mr Goss. North Carolina grasses are sold in bouquets and the thatched cottage will be sold at auction. The last day should outshine last season as all exhibits remain intact for visitors to view the interior. Fair closes this evening at 10 o'clock.
In York near here Bird Ellis a colored man murdered Mrs Logan 60 and almost killed her husband. He was jailed at Edgefield. A despatch reports the negro was taken from jail shot to death and his body thrown in the river.
Despatch from Reading, Pennsylvania reports a serious riot among the railroad laborers on the new Pennsylvania railroad line. Details on injuries or causes were not immediately available.
Sheriff and posse captured 21 rioters described as Hunrians working on the Schuylkill Valley branch. They were discharged for rebellion and wage demands, then drank, intimidated workers, attacked laborers quarters, tore down shanties, and damaged property. Pistols and knives were shown. a man and a woman were assaulted with the woman severely injured.
Insurance Commissioner Tarbox writes from Boston on Oct 30 1883 to James S Chahoon president of United States Plate Glass Company Philadelphia. He explains an error by the Real Estate Title Insurance Company that misstated Downingtown property mortgages as encumbered when they were discharged and says the accusation was unjust and unfounded. The company contends the commissioner had the facts weeks earlier and claims damage from the unretracted charge.

Eng. Pa. Nov. 2 John Eyster Giles Russell and Charles Brown began a bay crossing by sail boat during a gale on Wednesday and have not been heard from since. The boat was found bottom up, leading to the supposition that all were lost.
A six year old boy, Coudon, died in New Haven after a stone thrown by fourteen year old Kennedy struck his temple yesterday afternoon. Kennedy will be arrested.
The California pool federation in Chicago on November 2 decided to allow a commission of three dollars on first class Pacific coast tickets and two dollars and forty six cents on second class Pacific coast tickets for coast business ply, with no commissions on other business.

An unknown man died after being struck by a train on the Eastern railroad between the long bridge east of Oak Island and West Lynn station.
